One person is in stable condition after a house fire in Transcona Tuesday afternoon.

Winnipeg fire crews went to a two-storey house on Hiley Bay around 2:07 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the residence.

Firefighters used a Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool — a device which mists an aerosol spray to help suppress flames and reduce temperatures in an area which is burning — to enter the home and fight the flames from within, a Tuesday news release said.

Crews were inside the home for a brief period but were forced out due to deteriorating conditions. They continued to apply water to the fire and once conditions improved, extinguished the fire from within just after 3:30 p.m.

Everyone got out of the home safely and one person was assessed by on-scene paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage.
