After being stabbed and having his tires slashed earlier in the year, Salah Falah Hasan shared with a neighbour about his fears of being targeted.
On Sunday morning, Hasan became the city’s 27th homicide victim of the year after being shot in his Parc La Salle home.
Police responded to the 200 block of Houde Drive around 3 a.m. Sunday, where they found Hasan suffering from a gunshot wound. The 57-year-old was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries.
In a release on Monday afternoon, Winnipeg police said no suspects have been identified in the investigation.
The area resident, who requested anonymity, said Hasan had a violent history with a former boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend.
“It’s a sad situation and I feel for his family. He was a likeable person and was well respected in the community,” they said.
The resident said they believed Hasan made police reports regarding the alleged stabbing and tire slashing. The WPS, citing reasons related to privacy and the investigation, said it couldn’t confirm the prior incidents.
Another area neighbour who asked to remain anonymous said they heard three bangs followed by four gunshots in the middle of the night.
“It’s unsettling that this happened so close to home. We moved here from the North End to avoid situations like this, but this is the first time we’ve seen police in the area,” they said, adding they had only positive things to say about the victim.

Bullet holes were visible in the home’s front window Monday morning. Neighbours in the St. Norbert neighbourhood said Hasan lived alone with his two dogs and had family members who lived close by.
The city has now tallied nine more homicides compared to 2021. Eighteen slayings were reported at this time last year.
