The hills may have been alive with The Sound of Music inside the Centennial Concert Hall last Sunday, but a street outside was alive with the sound of road rage.

Winnipeg police said Friday that a 63-year-old man had just left the concert hall after taking in a performance of the musical and was being picked up on Market Street by a motorist in a silver SUV at about 11:40 p.m.

That’s when a man inside a white Mercedes Benz behind the SUV and attempting to merge into traffic, got out of his car and punched the victim in the upper body.

The victim was taken to hospital by a family member in stable condition and was later discharged. Police said he’ll need followup surgery.

The Major Crimes Unit is asking anyone with information to call investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
