Willy or won’t he? Bomber fans might want to brace for more bad news after that 32-3 spanking courtesy of the Eskimos in Edmonton Saturday night. Head coach Mike O’Shea is expected to give an update at 2 p.m. on the status of starting quarterback Drew Willy who was knocked out of the game. Here’s an ugly stat to consider if Willy is unable to play this week when the team hosts the B. C. Lions: In the two games the Bombers have played when Willy has been sidelined by injury, they have been outscored by a combined total of 70-19.

Lest we forget: Korea War veterans will gather this afternoon at Brookside Cemetery for a candlelight service. The Korean War ended on this day in 1953 with a ceasefire.

On July 27, 1950: The Winnipeg Free Press reported that former prime minister William Lyon Mackenzie King had been buried beside his parents in Toronto. Young Manitobans were creating one of the largest recruiting bottlenecks since the Second World War in their eagerness to enlist to fight in Korea. Steel workers at two firms in the city were to get a pay raise under a new collective agreement: starting pay rate was 90 cents an hour, to rise to 93 cents an hour after 30 days.
