Manitoba RCMP seized 61 kilograms of cocaine during a traffic stop at the end of March.

RCMP said Wednesday that the roving traffic unit stopped a vehicle driving westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway in the RM of Reynolds on March 29 around 7 p.m.

Officers suspected the driver was in possession of drugs and intending to sell them, RCMP said in a news release.

About 60 kilograms of cocaine was stashed in a compartment in an SUV, RCMP said.

“After the vehicle was stopped, officers conducted a search. The search located a sophisticated after-market compartment in the rear of the SUV that contained 61 kilograms of cocaine,” the release said.

Officers seized the cocaine and arrested the driver, a 29-year-old man from Alberta.

Charges have not yet been laid as the investigation continues, RCMP said.
