Kitchen appliance suspected cause of Valade Street fire

An electrical failure in a small kitchen appliance is the suspected cause of a townhouse fire in St. Boniface on Sunday.

Firefighters were sent to the three-storey unit on Valade Street at 4:34 p.m. and found smoke in one of the units. They declared the fire under control 20 minutes later after keeping it contained to the suite where it started.

No one was home at the time.
