The city’s annual water meter reading program will begin Wednesday.

Meter readers will be visiting homes weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. until Aug. 30. They will be wearing a uniform with the City of Winnipeg logo and carrying a hand-held device, and will present photo identification. They will only knock at the front or side doors of homes, not back doors.

Homeowners are advised to ask for ID before allowing a meter reader inside, the city said in a news release Monday.

Homeowners should ensure the meter is easily accessible and clear of obstructions. All dogs must also be secured either in another room or a kennel before meter readers will enter a home.

At least one accurate meter reading is required from each household annually. If a homeowner isn’t at home, a card will be left with instructions on how to provide an accurate reading by phone or online here.
