It was only a test.

Manitoba’s emergency measures organization sent a test emergency alert on compatible mobile phones, as well as televisions and radios, at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday.

The province said the test is important to educate the public on what a real emergency alert would look and sound like and to validate and improve the alert system.

Not all Manitobans received the alert on their phones, the province said, depending on device compatibility, cell tower coverage and phone settings.
