Mounties used a Taser on a man after stopping a vehicle on Highway 9 on Tuesday night.

Selkirk RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver at about 9:20 p.m. and found the vehicle at Highway 9 at Capri Road.

The driver of the vehicle was sober and co-operative, RCMP said Friday, but the passenger started yelling and swearing at officers.

The man got out of the vehicle, refused to get back inside, rushed towards an officer and shoved him, RCMP said.

“As officers were attempting to place him in handcuffs, the male assaulted an officer by punching him and threatened the officers,” an RCMP news release said.

Police then used a Taser on the man. One officer suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

A 42-year-old man is facing charges, including assault on a peace officer causing bodily harm.
