Woman badly burned, man charged

A man is facing charges after a woman suffered serious burns during an assault Sunday.

Headingley RCMP were sent to an assault at a home in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald at about 5:40 p.m.

The fire department was also sent to the home.

A fire was deliberately set to endanger the woman’s life, an RCMP spokeswoman said.

The 48-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She remained in hospital Tuesday, RCMP said in a news release.

A 49-year-old is charged with arson endangering life, aggravated assault and breach of a release order. He was remanded into custody.

The suspect and victim know each other, police said.
