The man’s name and age were not released; police said next-of-kin notifications are pending.

Police wouldn’t say if investigators have arrested a suspect or suspects.

The homicide unit is investigating.

Police are asking anyone with information or security video to call detectives at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).

The death is Winnipeg’s 12th homicide of 2024, though police include the 2023 deaths of two infants in their internal 2024 homicide statistics. Last year, the city recorded its 12th homicide on April 27.

Statistics Canada’s latest study, based on 2022 data, gave Winnipeg the second-highest homicide rate out of 36 census metropolitan areas in the country — 6.1 per 100,000 people.

Winnipeg recorded a record 53 killings that year. Thunder Bay, Ont., had the highest per-capita rate om 2022, at 12.05.
