A middle school in Transcona was briefly placed in a hold-and-secure Wednesday as Winnipeg police worked nearby.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Claude Chancy said officers were executing a search warrant, beginning around 11:30 a.m., in the area of Arthur Day Middle School on Whitehall Boulevard near Wayoata Street. Chancy declined to elaborate on the investigation or where the warrant was executed.

The River East Transcona School Division said in an email to parents that police placed the school in the hold-and-secure, in which all exterior doors were locked.

All students and staff were taken inside, the email said, while staffers remained near the doors to make sure students could get in if they arrived later. Classes continued through the day.

The hold-and-secure was lifted just after 3 p.m.
