Crews extinguished a fire in a boarded-up home in the North End late Tuesday night.

Firefighters were sent to the two-storey house on the 500 block of Mountain Avenue at 10:59 p.m. They fought the fire from inside and declared it under control at 11:37 p.m.

The structure was boarded up after fire struck the house and a neighbouring home on the night of Feb. 2. Both homes suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage in that fire.

The Tuesday night fire was the second one in Winnipeg this week involving a boarded-up home that had previously caught fire. Crews were sent to a two-storey converted dwelling on the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue late Monday afternoon and declared the fire under control an hour later.

Crews were sent there again early Tuesday after fire was found during a check. The building was boarded up after a fire on the night of March 27. Preliminary observations suggest the first fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said last month.
