An intoxicated man at a Boyd Avenue home where police had been called for “family trouble” allegedly disarmed an officer of a Taser and bit two others on Sunday afternoon.

The Winnipeg Police Service said they were called to the house on the 300 block of Boyd Avenue, between Charles and Salter streets, at about 3:20 p.m.

Patrol officers found the man agitated and intoxicated at the back of the house, fighting with a family member, police said. Officers separated them, but the intoxicated man fought the police, disarming one and biting two while threatening to kill them, police alleged.

Police managed to get him into cuffs, but three officers had to go to hospital for their injuries. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was sedated and medically cleared before he was formally arrested.

An 18-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count each of disarming a peace officer and uttering threats. He was detained.
