An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a 28-year-old man in April.

Bill Brian Duck, a Winnipeg man from God’s Lake First Nation, was shot and killed on the 600 block of Flora Avenue on April 26. Three days later, police asked any witnesses to come forward.

Officers patrolling near McGregor Street and Magnus Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. Monday followed a pickup truck that made an evasive turn in front of them, the Winnipeg Police Service said Wednesday.

The driver eventually left the vehicle and began running before being arrested and later identified as a suspect in the homicide, the WPS said.

Adam Joseph Morrissette, 50, of Winnipeg, was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder. The WPS said he was driving a stolen vehicle and had a small amount of drugs on him. He has been charged with two counts of possessing a scheduled substance and one charge of possessing property obtained by crime worth over $5,000.

Police said Duck and Morrisette did not know each other.

Duck’s death is Winnipeg’s 13th slaying of 2024, though police include the 2023 deaths of two infants in their internal 2024 homicide statistics because charges were laid this year.
