One person was taken to hospital in critical condition after emergency responders pulled them from the Assiniboine River on Sunday.

First responders received reports of a person in the water near the Donald Street Bridge at about 5:26 p.m.

The person was being pulled by the current towards the Red River. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews used water-rescue equipment to bring them back to shore, where they were treated by paramedics.

It is unclear how the person entered the river or how long they were in there, the WFPS said.
